The New India

This Independence Day, there is
a poem for all the youth who came out
Of their houses and volunteered for distributing the food packets, reaching the essentials and doing the needful for the less privileged people in the pandemic.

To the young boys and girls who remember the preamble, they learnt in school and have not lost their voices in front
Of the ministers and bureaucrats who just don't care and have been
Seeking justice for one and all through non-violent means.

To the 20-something who write in resume about the data analytics project
they did not shy talking about their struggle through depression.

To the artist trying their hands-on art creating life through poems, podcasts, paintings, songs or dancing their heart out and planting hope.

To the school going children who delete the
WhatsApp forwards before it reaches their parent,
And creating awareness about the hidden
Agenda of the TV News channel.

To the cousins who convince our parents
So that we may opt for unconventional career options and not marry because everyone else is getting married.
The young girls who didn't remain in the relationship with toxic people because society thought they had now where else to go.

To the young unmarried professional who themselves had to struggle a lot to find a flat on rent currently sheltering stray cats and dogs in floods and cyclone.

To the teenagers who keep correcting their mother's misogynistic comments and tell their fathers LGBTQ is like all of us.
Celebrate love on the streets wearing colours.

The students who read research reports to
Understand environmental degradation,
So they don't take long showers, plant more trees, not use or allow using plastic and keep educating everyone around.

To the generation that understands much and is so much more sensitive about mental health, environment, plants, creatures, secular fabric of the country
A very Happy Independence Day!
