The Forgotten Diary...

A selfie picture of Aditi Deshpande and her mother.

I found a diary. Long-forgotten and hidden somewhere in my shelf amidst hundreds of books.
The lockdown period was surely a catalyst in time traveling. The diary was my favorite place to scribble my thoughts onto it, and while leafing through its pages, I found a poem. It was penned down in 2015 and was dedicated to a person who is very close to my heart.

The poem was:

“You are my heart, and you are my soul,
You are the biggest God I’ve ever known.
You are the brightest star of my darkest nights,
You are my sunshine and my moonlight.
You walk thousands of miles just to make sure if I’m alright.

You are the umbrella of my rain,
You are the comfort of my pain.
You are the hand that holds the fevistick,
To fix my broken heart with it.
You are the warm blanket in the snow.

You are the wall I can lean on,
You are the giver on whom I can rely on.
You give me the shadow in the scorching summer days,
You come running to me when I am burn, with a band-aid.
You kiss my pain away.

You praise, and clap, and cheer,
You protect me from every heartache that I bear.
Your magical hugs can heal anything,
And without you, I am nothing.
You are the never-ending stock of love.

You taught me how to strive,
Because of you, I know how to survive.
And, when I have you by my side, my mom,
I know I have everything.”
