Two Worlds

Schools shut, online classes, work from home, lockdown cravings, bored at home, Zoom — while this became the lingo of one world, another world only heard hunger, no daily wage, pay up, no house.

Now draw your attention to #PayUp, have you heard of it?

Many fast fashion brands refused to pay their garment workers in Bangladesh bringing millions of lives to the street while the ones who run these brands chilled in their luxurious bungalows and cruise ships. This affected a lot of lives and some decided to raise their voice triggering the #PayUp movement which brings together labour rights groups and individual activists to urge all brands and retailers to protect garment workers impacted by the coronavirus. Help save the lives of millions of women. Demand brands #PayUp.

Some brands responded to these while some slyly got away with it blaming someone else for it.

I belong to the privileged world, I only heard online classes, zoom meetings, lockdown cravings. I was in my happy little world! But when I saw the visuals from the #PayUp movement, I was triggered. It deeply affected me. I dug deep, did my research and the reality started to get me slowly.

Though I was always aware of the term "sustainable fashion", I had only understood the environmental part of it. I was never aware of the effects of fast fashion on society!

A few days later I opened my social media to see a completely different visual. My social media was flooded with fashion bloggers making videos about the same fast fashion brands which had not even paid their dues during a global pandemic.

I don’t blame anyone in particular, I blame society as a whole for being so hypocrite. There is a sense of a lack of awareness in our country. When I googled the term sustainable fashion I actually came across a lot of sustainable fashion bloggers from other parts of the country, the idea of sustainability and fashion going hand in hand was not a new thing for them.

It’s been over a month now. My friend and I started a new blog to promote sustainable fashion brands and sustainable products from our country. We call it Sustainable You and I. Everyone can be sustainable, and when society is, sustainable brands are compelled to be more sustainable!

We all point at problems, we all complained about 2020, but most of us are never the part of a solution. Being part of a solution is as important as raising your voice against a problem!

Sustainable You and I
One day at a Time :)
