"Anyone up for the blood donation camp" a message popped in our NCC group. Hours later, again a message came, "Why aren't you all responding to the message?"
Little did she know that people were afraid of moving out of their homes, leave alone donating blood, that too in a government organization..!!
However, after an hour one name popped up willing to go and donate blood.
I had messaged my name there. I excitedly told my mother that I was going to donate blood that Monday. But she angrily reverted, "Is this even a time to move out of the house!!"
Confused by this reaction, I went to my daddy to share the news expecting a better response.
"Do you really want to go there? "
"Yes, I want to."
"Will you ensure utmost safety? "
"Yes, I will. "
"Do Not allow her to go for this activity. " came a shout from inside.
"Take sanitizer with you. And alongside carry every element that might be requisite, and go iron your uniform. " daddy said.
"Oh Yesss"
I was thrilled.
The address being unknown to me, the same evening I, along with my dad went to the place. It was the technological unit of NCC.
On inquiring, the watchman affirmed it to be the correct place.
He asked if there was something we were in requirement of, then.
"No thanks, we just wanted to confirm our address " we replied.
"For what?" the Guard asked.
"I'll have to be back here this Monday for blood donation", I Proudly replied.
With a grin on his face, he replied hilariously, "This is the time to save your blood, and not donate it. "
The same day, the highest number of COVID-19 cases were recorded in the city, and anxiousness spread out.
My mind shivered by that, thought of skipping the camp. But that's not what our training had taught us.
Monday morning, I awoke with the sense of happiness of wearing back my uniform and reached our unit. I could see only a handful of people gathered there.
Our sir proudly told me, "You are the only girl who came from your batch. Its Good to differ from the others. "
The officer asked me, "Are you fit for blood donation? "
Nervously, I affirmed.
"Good. You are done. Have some lemonade and banana."
That morning I learned,
"Train your Mind for little things, with great happiness. Because your heart is always willing to do those little things. "
