The Lockdown Motivation

Picture of Aastha Mahida doing Yoga and explaining its benefits.

Most of my college friends have known me as an over-excited person. Some may even call me ‘enthu-cutlet’. After joining college, I have always been that person who likes to roam around, participate in all activities, be the first bencher yet the most notorious in the class. My college journey has definitely been more happening and full of lessons unlike my school days. My school life was good as well but maybe I wasn’t that active and confident about myself till I joined college. College seemed like a platform where we do not just see the academia of a student but we even let them explore their soft skills. I did well in my first year and opted for my specialization in Food and Nutrition-Dietetics. The second-year was full of pursuit, we did many creative activities may it be for the ‘Breastfeeding awareness’ or the ‘Nutrition month’ all my classmates actively participated in skits, flash mobs, hospital visits and much more. Being nutrition students, most of us did not have any workout schedule but the to-and-fro in college and these activities kept us fit so far. Second-year passed and we all were in the third year, the final year. We never knew that the end of our bachelor’s life was going to be so abrupt. The COVID-19 hit, and we were all in lockdown. It was saddening to realize the fact that our college ended without a farewell. But what I perceived was even more threatening. We all were at our home, baking new recipes, laying all day, watching some really cool series but the reality was that we were getting physically and nutritionally weak. What we ate and what we did the whole day was nowhere helping us grow fitter instead we were getting fatter.

I am glad that I dwelled upon this thought and decided to make the best utilization of this lockdown. Some of my dear friends motivated me a lot during this time. I took a small break from social media, thought about how to train my body as well as my mind so that I could stay perfectly healthy. I learned about yoga and pranayama and started to perform it every morning during sunrise. It worked like; one arrow, two targets. I not only attained peace of mind but I even absorbed the morning sunlight which takes care of my Vitamin D levels. I’m very happy to have this time where I can bring the best out of me and keep thinking of new ideas to make a better change in me and then the society.
