The subject matter of this poem is personified Inner Voice of a Rain forest(Dehing_Patkai) in the very situation when her identity is in tremendous threat, due to the coal mining order issued by the Government of India, during this lockdown.
Dehing Patkai herself is one of the exotic beauty of the North-east. It is home to 40+ species of Mammals, 350+ species of wild Birds, 40+ species of reptiles, 155+ species of butterflies, 35+ species of fishes, 60+ species of major trees, 101+ species of orchids located in Dibrugarh-Tinisukia district of Assam. Moreover, the rain forest adds lots of other factors to balance the surrounding ecosystem. Because of such speciality this rainforest also known as Amazon of East.
The opencast coal mining decision in this rainforest has been issued by the National Board of Wildlife(NBWL), during this lockdown. It has eventually become a trending issue in India, overall social media platforms. Mother earth has always been witnessing natural damages like a bushfire in Australia, Amazon fire, fire in Uttarakhand, and so on in previous decades which humans are to be blamed. Yet, it is never too late to restore and that is why we all need to stand in solidarity to fight such evil that could harm our only home, Earth.
Questions are always worth asking so, is it utter right decision in the name of development to degrade the only home? Who is going to be responsible for such an act? Is it not our duty to raise voice on behalf of those voiceless animals? Who will hear their cry? Earth is already going through a massive change and trauma in the name of COVID 19.
Will the deforestation in Dihing Patkai solve any problem that has been existing in time? Or are we nothing but some greedy
Creatures in a nutshell?
According to Mahatma Gandhi "The earth provides enough to satisfy every man's needs but not every man's greed. So all answer is on our hand. So It's a humble request to you be with nature be with Dehing Patkai. Let them live, let them shine.
