Some heart is getting bruised

A picture of a girl holding a leaf

Sitting under the clear blue sky,
We reminisce the happy days
The spicy street food, the movies, the ice-creams
Lost in thoughts, lost in memories
We laugh happily.
While, at the same moment,
A helpless person walks barefoot
Covering his head with a yellow torn turban
Stumbling on lonely, dry and hot streets
as if it were a desert.
Panting profusely,
shedding drops of sweat every minute
just to get back to his home.
At the very same moment
27 million people lost their jobs
27 million are worrying for their meals
But how does that even matter
When all we can do is sympathize?
After watching them through a black screen
A father gets home.
All beaten up,
His daughter, wife & mom weep
Seeing all the cuts & bruises
What mistake did he make?
Only that he did his duty, only that he was a police.
A mother is out there,
Sleepless since last two days
Serving with all her heart
every corona-virus patient.
Mosques, temples, churches
Everything is shut down
I guess God is praying in there too, as he waits for people to act.
Even if you are privileged,
Comfortable at home, safe and secured
There are millions out there
Their lives are still at stake.
It doesn't matter
How healthy, wealthy and comfortable you are,
Let's stop living in a cocoon
And let's start acting
Because every life is calling out for you,
Not for sympathy, but for empathy.
